CAPE TOWN – Deputy leader of the EFF, Floyd Shivambu, was seen on camera assaulting a journalist outside parliament on Tuesday.

The scuffle took place in full view of onlookers. The journalist involved in the incident is Netwerk24 multimedia journalist Adrian De Kock.

According to De Kock, he was assaulted as he approached the EFF deputy leader for comment on Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille. Shivambu is reported to have told De Kock he does not have permission to take photos of him.

Shivambu proceeded to take matters in his own hands by attempting to delete the photo from the camera, according to De Kock. Shivambu was seen walking into the Old Assembly after the incident.

The video of the scuffle has already been trending on twitter.

De Kock has confirmed that he intends to lay charges.

  1. So sad to see how a few people a clear minority in parliament can have such a profound impact on how ordinary people experience living in the country. Nothing is safe in the hands of thugs. Reminds me all too much of a certain time in Germany around 1933 only the colour of the uniform was then brown. Time will tell if common sense will prevail.
