CAPE TOWN – Cape Town’s next mayor is set to be Dan Plato who is currently the Western Cape Community Safety MEC.
After meeting in Cape Town on Tuesday, the Democratic Alliance confirmed a recommendation by a selection panel to have Dan Plato succeed Patricia de Lille.
De Lille is scheduled to be leaving her office the end of October.
Spokesperson for the DA Solly Malatsi highlighted the list of other candidates who applied for the position; including Ian Neilson, Heinrich Volmink, Sharna Fernandez and Brett Herron.
Malatsi went on to say: “It was a very capable pool of candidates that reckoned and ranked Dan Plato high, because of all the experience.”
Dan Plato is not new to the role, as he held the position between 2009 and 2011. In 2009 he replaced Helen Zille and was then succeeded by the current Cape Town mayor De Lille.
In August De Lille agreed to resign following a very public battle between the DA and herself.
