CAPE TOWN – Mayor Patricia de Lille is required to give an explanation to Democratic Alliance leaders as to why she attended a Winnie Mandela memorial arranged by the Economic Freedom Fighters.
De Lille who is currently still in a very public and controversial fight with the DA regarding allegations of mismanagement, received a gracious welcome from EFF supporters at the memorial which took place in Brandfort, Free State.
The contention relating to this matter is due to the fact that De Lille did not inform the DA about attending the EFF linked gathering. Party leaders have demanded answers, with DA federal council chairperson James Selfe stating that De Lille’s actions in not first consulting with the DA, is a little odd.
The Mayor’s office confirmed that de Lille received an invitation to the memorial by the family of Winnie Madikizela Mandela.
Mayor De Lille was however not the only DA member present at the memorial. DA Free State chairperson Patricia Kopane is reported to have also attended.
